USF-NSBE HISTORYIn 1976, the Society for the Advancement of Minorities in Engineering and Sciences was founded at the University of South Florida (SAMES). SAMES was an affiliate chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers however in 1998, the chapter renamed the organization to the National Society of Black Engineers (USF-NSBE). In keeping with the goals of NSBE, our primary goals are to aid in the recruitment, retention, and the successful graduation of prospective engineers. In the past, USF-NSBE has developed diverse programs geared toward the leadership, academic, and professional development of its members. Our activities include: (1) tutoring and career guidance, organization of technical and non-technical presentations, (2) developing high school outreach programs, (3) interacting with other colleges and organizations, (4) and informing students on scholarships, jobs, graduate schools, and seminars. These activities serve as the essence of our organization--to be of good service for its members. USF-NSBE is considered a guide toward a fulfilling career in engineering and sciences.
